Don Hershey started HERSHEY TROPHIES in 1978. While working as a bowling lanes manager / professional bowler, Don started assembling and engraving trophies for his bowling leagues. In 1983, Don was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and confined to a wheelchair.

After that, his family began making trophies for friends in their home as a hobby. Soon, they began supplying local sports teams and organizations with memorabilia. They also began engraving plaques and medals.
